The Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP) has announced  its unwavering support for Mr. John Obot and the Uyo Book Club as they embark on a remarkable journey to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest reading attempt. The event, known as Readmania, will take place at Watbridge Hotel, Uyo, from September 9th to 15th, 2023.

In a Press Statement issued by the President of NBRP, Richard Mammah said as advocates for fostering a vibrant reading culture across Nigeria and Africa, NBRP encourages all book enthusiasts and individuals dedicated to promoting reading to rally behind this exceptional initiative. The Readmania event promises to reignite interest in the reading culture not only in Akwa Ibom but throughout Nigeria and the entire African continent.

Drawing inspiration from the past, NBRP fondly recalls extending its wholehearted support to one of its own, Mr. Bayode Treasures Olawumi, during his similar laudable campaigns. This solidarity underscores the close-knit community of literary advocates within NBRP, united by their shared commitment to nurturing the love for reading.

Uyo, a city of immense literary significance, held the prestigious title of the Nigerian National Book Clubs City for both 2021 and 2022. During this period, it played host to the National Conferences and Annual General Meetings (AGMs) of NBRP, showcasing its dedication to promoting reading and nurturing literary talents.

The upcoming 2023 AGM and Conference of NBRP will be hosted by Lagos, the current host city, from September 27th to 28th. Set to take place at the esteemed University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, this event is expected to provide a platform for passionate literary enthusiasts to convene, exchange ideas, and further solidify the foundation of a robust reading culture.

NBRP commended John Obot's ambition and determination in embarking on this extraordinary Guinness World Record attempt. The organization believes that his dedication will serve as an inspiration to countless individuals, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the world of literature and embrace the enriching experiences that reading offers.

In light of these developments, NBRP urged everyone to lend their support and encouragement to Mr. John Obot, the Uyo Book Club, and the Readmania event. According to the release “Let us collectively celebrate their dedication to nurturing a love for reading and literature, fostering an environment where knowledge and creativity flourish.”
