Often referred to as the "Book Man," Mr. Richard Mammah is not only an accomplished author but also the distinguished publisher of The Difference Newspapers. His multifaceted role as the Secretary to the Fair Management & Award Committee of the Nigeria International Book Fair (NIBF) showcases his dedication to advancing the literary scene on a national scale.


Adeoye highlighted Mr. Mammah's pivotal role as the President of the Network of Book Clubs and Reading Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP).

NBRP Stands in Solidarity with John Obot, Readmania, Uyo Book Club, and the Guinness World Record Attempt

 

NBRP STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH JOHN OBOT, READMANIA, UYO BOOK CLUB, AND THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

The Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters in Nigeria (NBRP) has announced  its unwavering support for Mr. John Obot and the Uyo Book Club as they embark on a remarkable journey to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest reading attempt. The event, known as Readmania, will take place at Watbridge Hotel, Uyo, from September 9th to 15th, 2023.

In a Press Statement issued by the President of NBRP, Richard Mammah said as advocates for fostering a vibrant reading culture across Nigeria and Africa, NBRP encourages all book enthusiasts and individuals dedicated to promoting reading to rally behind this exceptional initiative. The Readmania event promises to reignite interest in the reading culture not only in Akwa Ibom but throughout Nigeria and the entire African continent.

Drawing inspiration from the past, NBRP fondly recalls extending its wholehearted support to one of its own, Mr. Bayode Treasures Olawumi, during his similar laudable campaigns. This solidarity underscores the close-knit community of literary advocates within NBRP, united by their shared commitment to nurturing the love for reading.

Uyo, a city of immense literary significance, held the prestigious title of the Nigerian National Book Clubs City for both 2021 and 2022. During this period, it played host to the National Conferences and Annual General Meetings (AGMs) of NBRP, showcasing its dedication to promoting reading and nurturing literary talents.

The upcoming 2023 AGM and Conference of NBRP will be hosted by Lagos, the current host city, from September 27th to 28th. Set to take place at the esteemed University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, this event is expected to provide a platform for passionate literary enthusiasts to convene, exchange ideas, and further solidify the foundation of a robust reading culture.

NBRP commended John Obot's ambition and determination in embarking on this extraordinary Guinness World Record attempt. The organization believes that his dedication will serve as an inspiration to countless individuals, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the world of literature and embrace the enriching experiences that reading offers.

In light of these developments, NBRP urged everyone to lend their support and encouragement to Mr. John Obot, the Uyo Book Club, and the Readmania event. The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has congratulated Dr. Obari Gomba, Mr. Henry Akubuiro, and Mr. Abideen Abolaji Ojomu, for their remarkable achievement in being shortlisted for the prestigious 2023 Nigeria Prize for Literature.

In a statement by the President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), Wole Adedoyin said the Nigeria Prize for Literature, a distinguished award organized by the Nigerian LNG Limited, aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding literary contributions that reflect the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Nigeria. The shortlist announcement was made on August 29, 2023, by the Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the Prize, Prof. Akachi Adimorah-Eziegbo.

According to the Board, the plays stand tall in terms of dramatology, language, performance, story, and structure. The Board also said the plays represent the pinnacle of literary craftsmanship and the artistic convergence that The Nigeria Prize for Literature tirelessly seeks.

 

The Board stated: “For Grit by Obari Gomba, the judges have applauded it as a great play that transcends its covers. Its pages unfold a captivating narrative that has clearly left an indelible mark and its production quality is nothing short of excellent. 

 

The Ojuelegba Crossroads by Abideen Abolaji Ojomu has deeply resonated with the judges, who commend its rich exploration of our socio-political fabric. The play's ability to confront everyday struggles and decision-making conflicts while aiming for a harmonious resolution underscores its significant impact.

 

“Yamtarawala - The Warrior King by Henry Akubuiro captured the judges' admiration for its dramatic twists, rendering it not only suited for the stage but also the screen. The narrative unfolds in ways that evoke a profound sense of engagement and excitement.”

The SYNW commended the Nigeria LNG Limited for its unwavering commitment to promoting literary excellence in Nigeria. The shortlisting of these talented writers underscores the importance of nurturing a thriving literary community that contributes to the cultural and intellectual growth of the nation.

As an organization dedicated to fostering the growth of young Nigerian writers, SYNW takes immense pride in the achievements of Dr. Obari Gomba, Mr. Henry Akubuiro, and Mr. Abideen Abolaji Ojomu. Abeokuta Book Club Mourns Engr. Paul Oni, to Organize Special Reading in his Honour

Abeokuta Book Club has mourned the passing of Engr. Paul Oni, the immediate past Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) in Ogun State. The Club extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the leadership of the Ogun State Chapter of ANA during this difficult time.

In a statement issued today by Darasimi Adeoye, the Coordinator of Abeokuta Book Club said Engr. Paul Oni was a distinguished figure in the literary community, known for his dedication and contributions to the advancement of literature in Ogun State. His immense passion for the written word and his remarkable leadership as the Chairman of ANA will be greatly missed by the literary fraternity and the community at large.

Throughout his life, Engr. Paul Oni made significant contributions to the field of public affairs analysis, serving as the Ogun State Chairman of the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts. He was a familiar voice on numerous radio programs, where he shared his insights and knowledge on matters of public interest, leaving a lasting impact on the minds of listeners.

To honor Engr. Paul Oni's legacy and commemorate his immense contributions to literature, the Abeokuta Book Club will be organizing a special reading event. This event will serve as a platform for fellow authors, literary enthusiasts, and community members to come together to celebrate his life, share cherished memories, and pay tribute to his literary achievements.

The special reading event will feature selected works of Engr. Paul Oni, recited by members of the book club and invited guests. Shitta, Phebe, Gbenga to headline Abeokuta Book Club Reading

 

SHITTA, PHEBE, GBENGA TO HEADLINE ABEOKUTA BOOK CLUB READING

 


Abeokuta Book Club (ABC) has set aside 5th day of November, 2022 to host three Abeokuta based writers, Shitta Faruq Adémólá, Phebe Benjamin and Gbenga Ogunsola in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

A statement issued by the Coordinator and Secretary of the club, Darasimi Adeoye and Kolapo Mariam and made available to newsmen said the event would take place at the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Osiele by 11am prompt.

Below are the names and profiles of the writers.

SHITTA FARUQ ADÉMÓLÁ

Shitta Faruq Adémólá, Frontier XIV, is a 2021 SpringNG Writing Workshop alumni, a young Muslim Poet, digital artist, Fiction Writer From Nigeria, and a member of the Frontier Collective. He is the author of a microchap "All I Know Is I Am Going To Be Beautiful One Day" (Ghost City Press, 2021), and Night Club With Dogs (INKspired) 2022.

His works have appeared or are forthcoming in literary magazines like Jalada Africa, Beestung magazine, Blue Marble Review, Serotonin, FERAL, Third Estate Art, Rigorous Magazine, Icefloe Press, and elsewhere. He is the winner of the Fitrah review poetry prize, 2021, the BKPW Poetry contest (February edition) 2022, The World Voices Magazine's Poetry Contest (2022) and more. PHEBE BENJAMIN

Phebe Benjamin is a graduate of English Education from the University of Ibadan. She is a creative writer, copywriter, public speaker, poet and a freelancer. She has published her poem in the Lagos Book and Art Festival Anthology. 

 She served as a Lead Representative of Poets in Nigeria, UIABK connect centre. Due to her selfless service to the organization, she represented Poets in Nigeria at the Providus Bank World Poetry Day in 2021&2022 respectively where she shared the stage with the Professor Wole Soyinka (Kongi).

 Currently, she works as a freelancer with some top brands and she is open to speaking engagement and strategic connections across the world.

 Her first book to be published by December.
